Seventeen Magazine – The Times Of India on Sunday said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her allies in the Congress-backed government of Rajiv Gandhi are trying to unseat Prime Minister Modi and the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate from the state of Gujarat, Anil Vij.
The Congress Party had lost the 2014 general election by a mere 0.9 per cent to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The magazine quoted party leader and former minister Anil Sharma as saying that the party has decided to try and unseat Vij from Gujarat and he will be the next chief minister of the state.
“The Congress has decided that it will contest the general elections in Gujarat,” Sharma told the magazine.
“It is a move to oust Narendra Modi from Gujarat,” he added.
“We have decided to contest the polls in Gujarat, and we are ready to fight for our cause,” Sharma said.
